This morning, I wore up early, had a quick breakfast and then headed straight to the airport - no I haven't run back home, I was going to meet my Dad, who's here in Tokyo for a few days for work, and I went to surprise him by meeting him off the plane (had a little sign and everything). After getting all emotional and hugging for a while, we headed towards the keisei skyliner - a new super fast train that gets you from Tokyo to Narita in under and hour - and I took him straight to my apartment. The most fun bit about this tory so far, is that my Dad put complete faith in me and my knowledge of what to do (which has never happened before with any member of my family ever).
After letting him dump his stuff at mine and relaxing for a bit, I took him out for a random soba lunch, and then took him into the heart of Akihabara (because he said he wanted to see the area). I showed him all sorts of random shops, taught him some of the trivia of the area, watched the colour drain from his face and his jaw break through the concrete pavement (I think Akihabara may have been a bit of a culture shock for him, but in a good way I think). I even took him to Yodobashi Camera, the super store, and he was flabbergasted by the scale of the whole place.
After that, we came back to mine for a while, and I let him pass out for a bit on my sofa while watching some TV, and unpacking the suitcase sized care package he had brought from home. Then I took him to my local super market to help with my weekly food shop, which for him was a pretty interesting experience. Then after dumping that stuff back at the apartment, we headed out in search of supper. I had planned to take him to my local Yakitori (BBQ chicken skewer) restaurant, only to discover it was closed, because today is a national holiday. So we wandered about for a bit, jonesing for some Yakitori, and found a place in the UDX building. The food was pretty good, but the more people showed up, the longer the orders took, so there was a bit of waiting. And now, well a few minutes ago, he got a taxi to his hotel and I'm here trying to think of fun things to do together tomorrow.
