Woke up this morning and had a bit of time before I was to meet Dad again, so took a chance to get my shirts ironed, sort out a couple of bits for work next week, and think of some ideas for stuff we can do together. Then after arriving at his hotel, I found Dad had already found ideas that were much much better.
The place he had in mind was the Dream Yosakoi festival in Odaiba - Before coming out here I had looked up a bunch of awesome looking festivals, but had somehow missed this one. I have no Idea what the purpose was, but once we got there, we could see hundreds of troupes of Japanese dancers doing jaw droppingly awesome displays of dance and group...something. Not really sure what to describe it as, but I think they were some form of interpretive dancing. All I know is, I've maxed out my video cameras space with footage.
After checking out some of the dances, we took a quick look at the 1:1 giant Gundam robot statue they have outside the Diver city mall (which is awesome and I've seen before) and then took a look at the neighbouring Harley and motor vehicle festival that was also on. This was pretty cool, filled with lots of shiny harley davis motorcycles. Although, one could also describe it a mid-life-crisis convention - there were groups of people who wouldn't look out of place in an office room, but dressed in full biker leathers and chains. Pretty weird but still cool in the way only Japan can do. This whole festival was pretty cool (especially the remote control car drag racing) but compared to the crazy dancing troupes, it lacked a certain charm.
After a quick bit of lunch, and a few more dances, me and Dad also tok the opportunity to see a couple of the nearby shopping centres - Aqua city and Joypolis. Both very cool, as far as shopping centres go, but the fun bit was when Me and Dad went into the arcade and played both a shooting game and the cup noodle game (yes, there actually is an arcade game based on cup noodle, some kind of ball toss game). Then we hoped back on the train and headed back into central Tokyo. We headed to the Kanda area because I had seen signs for a pub themed after the 'Cheers' pub, and we were eager to see it. After 30 minutes, walking past in 3 times, and finally finding the building, we found out that it was closed. F@£$%^*@!@*&.
Before heading to my apartment, there was one more thing I wanted to do together. I had heard of a gym/sports centre nearby to my place, and we went and had a look. Not only does it have a great looking gym and pool, but also a Kendo club, an indoor archery arena, and a kyudo (japanese archery) dojo. the last of which was really great because not only did the people inside allow us to come in and watch for a while, but also gave me the contact and address of a nearby kyudo dojo to me (because apparently since I live in a different district, I can't practice there. Hell if I know why).
After coming back to the apartment and catching our breath, we headed out to a nearby Unagi (eel) restaurant I knew and had a great supper. Dad loves Unagi, so I knew he'd like that. But when our orders came, I found ming was cheaper, but much bigger. But Dad's was much tastier.
