Ok I know the clocks have changed back home, but they don't change in Japan. For some reason though, my body still refuses to sleep past 7 a.m. Seriously body cut it out.
For those of you who don't me very well, my ambition in life is to be a film Director. And even though my current job is very good, I don't it will reward me with such a privilege (at least not anytime soon). I have been carrying around a film camera with me (and photo camera as well) everywhere I go since I arrived here, just to make sure I'm ready to capture the epicness. And This morning I decided to take some time going through what I've got so far and do a bit of editing, just to keep myself in practice. That and I promised the people at work that I'd put something together from the video I took during the sports tournament (and here I hoped I'd never have to hear the 'Chariots of Fire' theme son again after the Olympics).
I headed out to my local katsudon restaurant for lunch because staring at a computer screen for hours on end is a sure path to a murderous headache and melted eyes. And while I was out, I went for another walk around Akihabara, visiting some of the other, less frequented shops I know. And on the way back I stopped for an ice cream parfait at the cafe I had been to before. What was remarkable was that I had only been there twice before and yet they still remembered me after a month of not coming. And they complemented me on my Japanese umbrella - hows that for good service.
This evening I decided it had been too long since I'd watched one of the greatest Japanese films of all time - 'Seven Samurai' by Akira Kurosawa. This is the most famous film and director from Japan and one of my favourites and yet I somehow hadn't managed to watch it after being here for nearly two months. So I've got it playing in the background as I write this, though sadly I still need the English subtitles - partly because the film uses a lot of old Japanese language that I don't know, but mostly because this film is from 1956, and no audio track can survive in mint condition that long.
