Day 2 of the company trip, and it was up early to enjoy a hearty buffet breakfast - with choice between Japanese and just getting the last of the western breakfast (there are many things about Japan I can adapt to easily, but breakfast is not on that list).
We then gathered our bits and dumped them in another room before being divided up into groups of four and heading to the hotels recreation centre to do individual sports.
1) clay pigeon shooting. Any one who knows my family will know that they have a...fondness, for shotgun shooting, which I am not a part of (basically I'm more likely to have an accident with a shot gun than in a car). So I wasn't looking too strongly at the prospect of clay pigeon shooting. Until I found out they were just laser sighting guns and really a live action arcade game. Then I relaxed and enjoyed myself, though still sucked on a level only matched by the other company members.
2) 9 hole golf - oh dear. I had had lessons as a kid, and realised very quickly that I should have carried them on. Not going to go into too much detail about how awful I was, but to summarise at one point I ended up in the middle of the buggy road, halfway up the fare-way on the next hole. Fortunately most people in the company 'claimed' it was their first time as well (although I had trouble believing that at times) and so I got to enjoy it a bit with everyone and all having a good laugh over how awful we were. And I mean everyone because some groups were so slow they were backing up the other groups.
3) Archery - This one I was looking forward to because I have been practicing for 10 years or so and was looking forward to showing off for the camera. But I've been out of practice for a while and wasn't up to my usual standards (that and the bow I was using was weird, something wrong with the rest alinement or something, not my fault). But thankfully nobody had done it before so got away free.
4) Putting golf - basically a bunch of mini greens on sloping hills. Not as much fun because I'd had enough of golf by now and it wasn't all that exciting really.
After all this, we had time to head back to the main hotel and grab some lunch, then hit the open air baths again one last time, before gathering our bits together for the return journey. Before we left there was a mini prize ceremony and then a big group photo (this appears to be a universal concept) and then it was cramming into the bus and back home.
Apart from having to stop on the way to get milk, I'd say this was one hell of a great first company trip.
p.s. I've spoken before about privacy and confidentiality on this blog, so you may be wondering why I've written about all of this. = Does ANY of the above and previous post sound important enough to be confidential?
