September 30th 2012 - Day 24

My last day of having nothing to do...sort of. I think a better description is the last day when I had no urgent work to do...actually that doesn't work either, I'll start again.
Although I had nothing planned to do and no where to go today, I did have some important work to do - namely preparing for my first day tomorrow. Most of this was easy, getting any books and bits and pieces together so that I didn't need to stress tomorrow (I like being prepared). The real hard parts were two-fold. Firstly I had to prepare my Introduction in Japanese tomorrow - It is customary in Japan to introduce yourself to people when you come to a new place of work, first impressions being very important, and in Japanese there is usually  specific format and grammar that is followed in these occasions. Although I have learned what most of that is, I still needed to think hard (and get advise) on what sort of things I should say in my introduction. And then translate them.
This led to my second job of the day - re-reading through three years of Japanese language notes and books. This is a bit like trying to blow air into a balloon - there is only so much that will go in at one time before the thing goes off bang. I don't handle that sort of thing well and I may have hit a low point where I was looking online at earliest plane tickets back home. You know like you do. But at those points I decided to go and take a walk(s). Well that and I needed to go and an extension plug for my kitchen.
Not much else of interest happened during the day. I did see a car that looked as though it had driven straight into a wall. And I received a phone call from my friend here warning me about an approaching typhoon, that was already hitting in some areas of Japan, and would be raging here throughout the night and early morning. Hows that for a bad omen - right before I start work a typhoon hits? You can't right that stuff. Although as long as I stay inside tonight I should be fine. Plenty of excuse to practice my introduction now.
