Another day at the office, although this one was slightly more eventful. After using my new rail card to get to work, I sat down and was told to start work on A) improving some of my previous translations and responses, and B) going to the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) website and practicing the online sample questions they have. For those of you who don't know, this is a test taken by people learning Japanese in order to measure their language - its basically a way of finding out how crap you really are.
But I was spared from finding out because I was asked to help set up a training seminar that the company runs (once again, can't put those details on here). This was good fun because it gave a chance to see a little about how the company do their stuff, and it was work I was used to (i.e. carrying heavy object and straightening tables). It also gave me a chance to chat to some of the girls in the office, of which there are none on the design team.
For lunch I was taken out by three people from the office who are bigger anime nerds than I will ever be in my entire life. So as you can imagine we got along great. It was fun chatting to people about all the anime we were interested in and I seem to have impressed them with the fact that I have seen more than all three of them put together (says volumes about my social life doesn't it).
I came back to the office and then went straight out again in order to head to the filming studio from before - its basically a small room with a wall of green screen and super cool expensive movie cameras and equipment. The purpose of today was to film a live web seminar about the company- and thats all I can say partly because of privacy but mostly because I had no idea what was really going on (language barrier and all that). I spent most of the time sheepishly sitting in the corner and trying to guess at what was being said, although they ask me to do some backstage filming with a spare camera.
And by the time everything was finished it was time for my welcome party. Everyone from the design team came over and set up a table 'laden' with all kinds of food and gallons of beer. Then spent the evening eating, drinking and having questions fired at me whilst I watched the men around me grow steadily louder, redder, and at one point start shooting champagne corks at each other. This was all well and fun, though by the time I got home it was midnight and I had 6 hours before getting up and going to work - hence why this post is late for anyone who tracks me regularly.
