September 18 2012 - Day 12

Finally, after a week of wondering in and out of the shops, seeing all this amazing anime merchandise, I finally felt in a good enough place to go into the shops of Akihabara and buy things. This is effectively what I did all day, meandering up and down the street, and looking into a lot of shops, whilst buying various anime items that look cool and fill the spaces in my apartment. I even found an interesting sengoku (samurai period) cafe for lunch, but this turned out to be a little more maid themed than I realised, and it reminded me why going to maid cafes is a bad idea (those people are really into what they do). But I did manage to try a Japanese crepe for desert - unlike english or french crepes which are just plain crepes with sauce on a plate, Japanese crepes are stuffed with (in my case) bananas, whip cream, chocolate sauce, and all rolled up and eaten on the go. By the time I got back, I was pretty much shattered and balancing the bags in each hand to keep up straight. Should tide me over for a couple of days.
Once I'd finished going through everything I bought, I got down to figuring out how my new iron works. No not how to use it, the real trouble was in how you turned the damn thing on. And after getting that done, I broke out the rice cooker and learned how to use that as well (as a warning, they take longer to cook rice than expected) and I combined that with some mince to create a foreigners attempt at a don-buri meal. But the biggest shock of the day, was when I tried to add an egg to the meal for flavour, and discovered that it was pre poached! Thats right the pack of eggs I bought before where all poached in there shells, not boiled, poached. How the heck they do that is well beyond me. I was both shocked and unsurprised = only in Japan eh.
